about

NOTE: Download includes printable, DIY Paper Sailboat kit and a bonus track.

Good morning!

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving day, Columbus day or Monday depending on where you're situated. Today I am releasing Paper Sailboat's fourth full length album - "Paper Sailboat". This project, from the outset has been the most fun I've spent working on music in a long time. If you would like to read how it came to be, please continue. If you want to go right to the download, then go fer it!

You're probably thinking "But you just released Number Stations a few months ago, how come you are putting out another full-length already?" To that I would say that were this a commercial project, I would see more merit to staggering out the releases to build anticipation. Perhaps I am doing myself a disservice in this regard. All the same, there's no contrivance involved. If it appears to be done, then it is done, and thanks to the internet there is hardly any time involved when it comes to making the music available online.

This album is a very direct attempt to capture the ethos of what Paper Sailboat is musically. There was no overarching or high-minded concept this time around, why not do something straight-forward? I don't think I've ever answered the question 'What is Paper Sailboat?' from a musical standpoint - so this album is an attempt to answer that.

The tracklisting with notes:

General Electric (features guitar work by Samantha McGrath)
Ambieight (features a drum loop created by Octav8 soundcloud.com/octivate - check out his Soundcloud!)
Clair De Lune (Claude Debussy)
Retro Oblivion
Displacement (features real drum work by James Morton)
Atlas Telemon (features a drum loop created by Octav8)
Bear Substitution (originally written for Number Stations, though I didn't get the instrumentation right until after I had finished the album)
Eighty-Eighterer (a more eight bit version of a song called Eighty Eight - a song that grew into Ambieight)
Peace (20 internet fun points to the first person who can tell me who the person giving this lecture is)
Oscillator - a bonus song which does not quite fit but why not? (features loops contributed by Reddit users Stereoprism soundcloud.com/stereoprism and Harbltron)

It is important to note that this is not to signify any sort of change in trajectory, or that past work did not achieve what it was meant to achieve. This is simply a new, interesting dimension of Paper Sailboat that I hope you will enjoy exploring.
